My Condo Decorating Tips Part 2

When decorating a small space we need to be creative. Using the limited space available requires planning and careful observation. Go through the space and see what corners can be used, if there is height or you can add some elevation through illusion.

Each condo is different in design and the ways to use the space also varies. Here are some condo decorating tips:

1. For the living room use floating shelves and stagger the shelves. To show off a collection of decorative objects and mementos use shelves and rotate the displays. Basic shelves go with almost anything. 
2. When living in rented space you don’t have to be restricted to mini blinds that come with them. Get yourself easy DIY curtains that you can sew in about a week’s time. 
3. When acquiring furniture for your small space, use color. If you can’t paint the apartment or don’t want to, buy furniture that will add color. Even color on your bedspreads will do the trick. 
4. Include open storage – if there are less than required cabinets use industrial metal shelving units for your kitchen storage. Add baskets, and other coral kitchen staples to add that decorative touch. 
5. Floor finishes – In a lease you are stuck in a space with finishes that are given. There is very little scope for changes. If the carpet is not to your liking, use an extra large area rug that goes with other items in the room. For a small room, use a rug that goes with its size.    
6. If yours is a vintage apartment, there may be an old world charm about it. There may be elements in it that contrast with your modern style of dressing up a room. It might not be of help to cringe at it, rather work around it. If there is no way to change the bathroom tile, use a color that you like as the main theme for it. 
7. Adding a mirror to a small space is one trick that always works. It could be a bedroom, living room, or even the dining space. Place it across a window so it receives natural light and reflects it back into the room. 
8. Most of the TV’s are now fixed on the wall. Make that wall a focal point in the room. Keeping the TV to the wall saves space. Use the console beneath it to serve when entertaining. Place some paneled artwork behind the TV to frame it. 
9. The rental agreement makes it difficult to modify the home but it doesn’t mean that you have to live with it the way it is. Drape the sink if you don’t like it, if there are plumbings you want to hide, use adhesive-backed hook and loop tape.
